Sodexo has entered the world of social media. Marissa Rossman ’13, Sodexo’s social media student, connects the cafeteria and the students at Kalamazoo College.
“They hired me as their student communications coordinator. They basically hired me to bridge the gap between the caf and the students, kind of to be a liason in between, just online. So, instead of filling out a comment card you could tweet me.”
Rossman’s job was put into place to create a more positive relationship between the cafeteria and students, and to serve as a form of communication.
“They are hoping to get better or more student feedback. Just because they really want to try and please the students really, make the dining experience better.”
The job was given to Rossman this past summer by Susan Matheson, the general manager of Sodexo at K.
“I was like I really want that twitter job. My name is Marissa and I can do that.”
Rossman says that Sodexo already has some new ideas to add to the dining experience here at K.
“They also want to start adding classes and events in the cafeteria where you could learn how to carve a pumpkin or how to decorate cakes.”
When asked how this relates to the current dining bid process, Rossman said, “The way my boss explained it to me is that during the beginning of the bidding process she heard a lot of students complaining about things that exist at Sodexo. They feel like there is poor communication between the caf and the students.”
If students are looking to explore some of the opportunities that Sodexo has to offer, or have suggestions on how to improve their cafeteria they can find Rossman on Twitter @SodexoAtK. Her Twitter profile says, “Follow me to get updates on the food & fun happening at The Caf! Also, tweet me any feedback, comments, or questions you may have—I’m here to be your SodexBro.”
