StuComm Update

By Kelsey Donk Arts and Entertainment Editor

Secretary of Finance Cameron Goodall ’15 began the meeting with budget requests. Kalamazoo Poetry Collective members Hannah Daly ’13 and Allison Kennedy ’15 asked for funds for a Tumblr theme for an online publication.

“It’s a one time fee,” Daly said. “Keeping this StuOrg alive is really important to us right now.”

The budget request was approved, as was another request by KPC for funds for a performance this Saturday by poet Angel Nafis.

DIRT representative Monika Egerer ’13 requested $200 for members of the club and the campus community to go to a speech by Joel Salatin on Saturday. Student commissioners approved the budget request. A request by the Kalamazoo Outing Club for funding for a trip to Sleeping Bear Dunes was also approved.

A representative from the Logic Society requested funds to purchase books for a library, t-shirts and print credits. StuComm voted to fund the books and print credits, but decided not to fund t-shirts.

Rasho then welcomed seven new commissioners, who recited the oath. She reminded commissioners that members from the Higher Learning Commission are currently on campus.

The Security Committee met with Director of Security Tim Young last week. Representative Asia Morales ’15 said the committee discussed security around Chrissy and Severn residence halls, and adding more cameras around the Living Learning House Units in the grove.

Elections Committee Chair Ian Flanagan ’13 said the committee is looking into purchasing new elections software. The commissioners then discussed an appropriate place to list voting tallies.

Commissioners are looking into reporting the exact results on the website and not publishing tallies in an email. The meeting concluded at 10:30 p.m.
